Glitter, Glam, and Turning Japanese
The Rocky Horror ethos is mired in 70's Glam, and some tribute should be paid. But there's been a lot of glitter and a lot of rock under the bridge since then. The classic movie nods are built into the narrative so there's no real need to overstate them in the production. While Rocky Horror has been frozen in time a couple of generations have been shaped by different aspects of mid-20th century culure, new incarnations of Glam, and new kinds of horror, exploitation and sci-fi.
